Your Voice Helps Build the Case

Wigan has a strong community of creatives, makers, musicians, and independent businesses — but access to affordable, suitable workspace remains a significant barrier. Many people are working from home, in unsuitable spaces, or are priced out of the market entirely.

Pier Yard CIC is at an early stage of exploring whether a creative container village could help address this gap. Before we go further, we need to hear directly from the people who would use it. Your responses will help us build a genuine evidence base to support funding applications, council discussions, and project design.

What We're Exploring

A creative container village making better use of underused land in Wigan, providing:

Affordable Workspace

Studios, desks, and workshop space at prices that work for freelancers, artists, and early-stage businesses.

Micro-Retail & Pop-Ups

Small trading units and pop-up space for independent retailers, food and drink operators, and makers.

Community Space

Event space, meeting rooms, and gathering areas for community organisations, workshops, and cultural programming.

Creative Studios

Dedicated space for visual artists, designers, photographers, and other creative practitioners.

Rehearsal & Production

Soundproofed space for musicians, performers, podcasters, and audio/video production.

Enterprise Support

Mentoring, networking, business support, and development programmes for early-stage ventures.

All details are illustrative and subject to land, planning, funding and partnership development.

Built Around Community Need

This isn't a top-down development. Pier Yard is being shaped by the people who would use it. We want to understand what local creatives, businesses, and community groups actually need — not what we assume they need.

The survey takes around 5–8 minutes. Your answers are confidential and will only be used to support the development of this project.
